Park Gang-su, mayor of Mapo District, visited the Mapo Women’s Companion Center on the morning of March 8, International Women’s Day, to support women at the event “Celebrate Together by Running 3.8km in Commemoration of International Women’s Day.”
Organized by the Mapo Women’s Companion Center, this event was held to promote women’s rights and equality, protect their rights, and eliminate social discrimination.
In particular, the running course was set at 3.8km, the same number as the date of Women’s Day, March 8, adding special significance.
On the day, about 100 participants commemorated Women’s Day by running from the Seogang University Station plaza along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail. Among the participants were families with children, attracting attention.
Before the run began, Park Gang-su, mayor of Mapo District, said, “I sincerely congratulate International Women’s Day, which comes at the threshold of spring, and support all the women in the world.” He added, “It is especially meaningful that an event celebrating Women’s Day is held in Mapo District, which has the highest proportion of female population among Seoul’s autonomous districts. Mapo District will continue to spare no support for advanced policies for women, including the Mapo Women’s Companion Center, the creation of mom cafes, and employment and start-up support for women with career breaks.”
