"The Essence of the Insurrection Leader Remains Unchanged"
Emergency Party Meeting to Begin at 8 p.m.
The Democratic Party emphasized on the 8th that a swift impeachment dismissal decision by the Constitutional Court is necessary, warning that President Yoon Seok-yeol's release could incite extreme violence by insurrectionary forces.
Cho Seung-rae, the Democratic Party's chief spokesperson, said at a press meeting at the National Assembly in the afternoon, "The followers of the insurrection mistakenly believe that President Yoon has been acquitted," adding, "They should not forget that he is a suspect of insurrection and humbly await the Constitutional Court's judgment."
Cho pointed out, "Yoon Seok-yeol is still mistaken; he is the leader charged with insurrection, which carries a minimum sentence of life imprisonment," and added, "He is someone who has been impeached by the people and the National Assembly and is awaiting the Constitutional Court's decision on impeachment dismissal."
He continued, "He remains a suspect of insurrection and the respondent in the impeachment request. Although there is a misconception that he has been exonerated, the cancellation of his detention due to procedural defects does not change the essence of the matter."

Regarding the ruling People Power Party's claim that the declaration of martial law is the opposition's fault, Cho responded, "The Constitution defines the reasons for martial law as wartime or equivalent situations," and questioned, "This is an absurd sophistry. Would the constitutional order of democracy be maintained if martial law were declared just because a political faction dislikes something?"
Cho added, "Currently, the people are awaiting both criminal punishment and constitutional punishment for President Yoon. We hope both will be concluded swiftly," explaining, "I believe the Constitutional Court's judgment will come before criminal punishment. That would reassure the anxious public and prevent further confusion."
The Democratic Party plans to hold an emergency party meeting from 8 p.m. today to discuss countermeasures following President Yoon's release.
