Reform New Party on Yoon's Release: "Illegal Martial Law and Treason Are Never Innocent... Impeachment Trial Must Be Expedited"

"Law Enforcement Agencies Have Abandoned Even the Minimum Pride"

The Reform New Party stated on the 8th regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's release, "The Constitutional Court must promptly make a decision on the impeachment trial."

Lee Dong-hoon, chief spokesperson of the Reform New Party, said in a commentary on the same day, "The prosecution's abandonment of the appeal against the cancellation of Yoon Seok-yeol's detention is a surrender of even the minimum pride as a law enforcement agency."

Lee emphasized, "Especially while claiming that the court's calculation of the detention period is unfair, not appealing is a clear dereliction of duty," and added, "The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is also not free from responsibility, having made excessive demands despite insufficient investigative ability, ultimately ruining the case."

He raised his voice, saying, "Reform of the conscienceless prosecution and the incompetent CIO has now become a necessity, not a choice," and "The resignation of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung and CIO Chief Oh Dong-woon will be the starting point of reform."

Lee said, "However, just because the detention was canceled due to the investigative agencies' missteps, it does not mean that the illegal martial law and rebellion carried out by Yoon Seok-yeol are acquitted," warning, "The grave crimes of the rebel leader who, engulfed in delusions of a fraudulent election, pointed guns and knives at the National Assembly and the people can never be concealed by anything."

He continued, "Even looking at the national address released immediately after the release confirms that Yoon Seok-yeol's delusions and threats are still ongoing," and said, "If Yoon incites to destroy the Constitutional Court together with Jeon Kwang-hoon and the People Power Party, a horrific event that one would not even want to imagine could occur."

Lee concluded, "Now the Constitutional Court must stop the A-level dangerous figure Yoon Seok-yeol. The Constitutional Court should protect the rule of law and democracy of the Republic of Korea through a prompt decision on the impeachment trial."
