People Power Party: "Prosecutors 'Welcome' Yoon's Release... Constitutional Court Should Review from the Beginning"

The People Power Party expressed its 'welcome' on the 8th regarding the prosecution's release of President Yoon Seok-yeol following the court's decision to cancel his detention.

Shin Dong-wook, the senior spokesperson of the People Power Party, said immediately after the news that the prosecution decided to order President Yoon's release, "The cancellation of the president's detention and his release is a very natural decision, and I hope it will serve as an opportunity to correct the distorted rule of law," adding, "Although the delay is regrettable, we welcome the wise decision made, even if late."

Senior spokesperson Shin stated, "This confirms once again that the entire process of arrest and detention of the president, which began with the 'illegal investigation' by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), was a subversive attempt to undermine legitimate rule of law," and added, "The CIO, which lacks investigative authority, conducting investigations and illegally arresting and detaining the president through warrant shopping will remain a blot in the constitutional history of the Republic of Korea."

He also called for a reexamination by the Constitutional Court, which is currently conducting the impeachment trial.

He said, "Now it is the time for the Constitutional Court," and added, "Since the court has corrected its erroneous decision, the Constitutional Court's deliberation should also be reexamined from the beginning." Senior spokesperson Shin strongly urged, "We strongly call for a thorough review to determine whether there was any unreasonable legal interpretation or political consideration involved, and whether any elements that damaged the constitutional order existed."

He continued, "We also hope that the Democratic Party apologizes to the people for dividing public opinion through unreasonable accusations of rebellion and pressuring the illegal detention of the president."
