Poland "All Adult Males to Undergo Military Training"... Possibility of Nuclear Armament

Preparing for Threats from the War in Ukraine...
Targeting a Force of 500,000
Considering Nuclear Armament and Purchasing Korean Tanks and Fighter Jets

All adult men in Poland are expected to undergo military training. This is to prepare for threats arising from the war in Ukraine.

On the 7th (local time), BBC reported that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in a parliamentary speech that "procedures are underway to ensure all men receive military training."

Prime Minister Tusk stated, "By the end of this year, a model will be prepared so that all adult men receive training in the event of war and reservists can prepare for potential threats," adding, "We plan to disclose all details within the next few months."

He added, "Intensive training is necessary to make those who do not join the military competent soldiers," and "Women can also receive military training if they wish, but war is still largely a male domain."

According to Prime Minister Tusk, the Polish military, including reservists, numbers about 200,000, with a goal to increase to 500,000. Poland maintained conscription for a long time even after the end of the East-West Cold War and the transition from communism to democracy, but switched to an all-volunteer force in 2008.

Additionally, Prime Minister Tusk pointed out that Ukraine was invaded after giving up nuclear weapons and mentioned the possibility of Poland acquiring nuclear arms.

He said, "Poland wants to secure its own nuclear weapons, no matter how unlikely," and noted that the proposal by France to include Europe within a nuclear armament scope is being carefully considered. Recently, France has emphasized that European allies should establish their own 'nuclear umbrella' systems.

Prime Minister Tusk said, "There is no doubt that having our own nuclear weapons would make us safer," but added, "In any case, the path will be very long and agreements will have to be reached."

Poland plans to spend 4.7% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defense this year, the highest among NATO member countries. Prime Minister Tusk believes this should be increased to 5%.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Poland has increased its defense budget. It has also signed contracts to purchase South Korea's K2 tanks and FA-50 light combat aircraft.

BBC reported, "Most Poles believe that supporting Ukraine aligns with their own security interests."
