Rep. Sung Iljong: "Democratic Party Must Apologize for Political Attacks and Obstruction That Troubled President Yoon"

"Today, a Massive Conspiracy Has Been Revealed"

On the 7th, Representative Sung Iljong of the People Power Party stated, "The court has granted the release of President Yoon Sukyeol, who had been detained due to an illegal arrest led by the Democratic Party through the Corruption Investigation Office."

On his social media that day, Representative Sung wrote, "As justice prevails, lies cannot overcome the truth," and added, "Today, a massive conspiracy has been revealed."

He continued, "The court pointed out that the scope of investigation for the Corruption Investigation Office does not include the crime of insurrection, and that the Corruption Investigation Office and the prosecution are independent investigative agencies. Without any legal basis, they negotiated and split the detention period stipulated by criminal procedure law, and in the process, did not even go through the proper procedure for transferring custody."

In particular, he noted, "The court determined that President Yoon was indicted after his detention period had expired," and criticized, "This clearly shows how illegal and reckless the actions of the Corruption Investigation Office have been."

Representative Sung further criticized, "The Democratic Party, which has relentlessly harassed the president with constant political attacks and obstruction, the Corruption Investigation Office, which pushed ahead with court shopping and illegal arrests, and the judges from the 'Our Law Research Society' who issued illegal arrest warrants?all have committed crimes before history."

He continued, "As soon as the president's release was granted, the Democratic Party convened an emergency Supreme Council meeting and a general assembly of lawmakers. What the Democratic Party should urgently discuss now is 'how to properly apologize to the people,'" adding, "They must finally seek forgiveness from the public for bringing the country to this state."

He also urged, "After the Supreme Council meeting and the general assembly, the Democratic Party should not waste time making pointless excuses, but sincerely apologize to the people."

Representative Sung emphasized, "The Constitutional Court must thoroughly review whether the impeachment trial of the president has been conducted according to law and due process," and added, "I hope the national institutions and the political community will thoroughly examine this lawless incident and make the right judgment."
