Customized AI Education for All Ages, from Children to Parents
Recruitment for Participating Institutions and Students Scheduled for March
Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (President Kim Taeyeol) will expand and improve the programs of the Busan Information and Culture Center this year to enhance the basic AI competency of Busan citizens.
This initiative aims to provide customized AI education and foster ethical awareness across all generations, from children and adolescents to university students and parents. The main programs include: ▲Mobile AI Dream Tree Development ▲Youth Coding Competency Enhancement Education ▲University Student AI Competency Enhancement Education ▲Generative AI Parent Education ▲AI TokTok Coding Contest.
The 'Mobile AI Dream Tree Development' program offers video content creation education using generative AI for elementary and middle school students. The 'Youth Coding Competency Enhancement Education' provides basic and applied programming education required for AI development to middle and high school students, helping them improve their coding skills. Both programs recruit participating institutions in cooperation with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, and instructors visit schools and institutions directly to conduct the training.
In collaboration with the Busan National University Software Convergence Education Center, 'University Student AI Competency Enhancement Education' and 'Generative AI Parent Education' will also be offered. The 'University Student AI Competency Enhancement Education' provides non-major university students with training on basic AI utilization and data analysis. The 'Generative AI Parent Education' program helps parents understand the concept of generative AI and changes in the social and educational environment, and guides them on how to use AI in their children's education.
All courses include education to foster digital ethical awareness. Recruitment for participating institutions and students will be announced on the Busan Information and Culture Center website in March, and active participation from institutions and citizens is anticipated.
Additionally, in cooperation with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and local universities, the 'AI TokTok Coding Contest' will be held to enhance the AI programming skills of local children and adolescents. The contest is open to elementary and middle school students, who can submit creative works using Scratch or Entry. The contest is scheduled to be held in July, and detailed information will be available on the Busan Information and Culture Center website prior to the event.
Cho Youngtae, Director of the Busan Metropolitan City Administration and Autonomy Bureau, emphasized, "In the era of digital transformation, customized education for each generation is essential to ensure that everyone can benefit from AI technology," and added, "This initiative will play a key role in enhancing the digital competency of Busan citizens and nurturing future talent."
Kim Taeyeol, President of the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, stated, "In an era where AI technology is rapidly advancing, strengthening the digital competency of citizens is an essential task," and added, "Through this initiative, we aim to help Busan citizens develop their AI utilization skills and bridge the digital divide."
Since its opening in December 2008, the Busan Information and Culture Center has been pursuing projects to foster a healthy information culture and enhance digital future competency under the vision of 'Digital Inclusive City Busan,' including strengthening basic AI competency and ethical awareness among citizens.
