To promote exemplary taxpayer awareness and foster a healthy tax culture, the district established the 'Ordinance on Preferential Treatment and Support for Meritorious Taxpayers in Seocho-gu, Seoul' in 2017 and has been awarding certificates of commendation to meritorious taxpayers annually.

Meritorious taxpayers are selected from individuals and corporations with addresses or business locations in Seocho-gu who have had no tax arrears in the past 10 years and have paid local taxes at least twice annually for the past 8 years as exemplary taxpayers. Among those who have paid local taxes of at least 50 million KRW for corporations and 10 million KRW for individuals, selections are made through the Local Tax Deliberation Committee considering contributions to district development and the local community.

This year's commendation recipients include three corporations: Haedong Science and Culture Foundation, MiraeN Co., Ltd., Songcheon Development Co., Ltd., and 17 individuals.

Meanwhile, meritorious taxpayers receive various benefits such as one year of free parking fees at Seocho-gu public parking lots, free use of Seocho Recreation Center, and tickets to performances organized by the Seocho Cultural Foundation. The district plans to further expand the benefits given to commendation recipients to enhance the pride of diligent taxpayers and foster a social atmosphere where they are preferentially treated.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "I express my gratitude and respect to the residents who faithfully pay their taxes every year," and added, "We will continue to manage the precious taxes transparently and efficiently for regional development and residents' welfare."
