Saves a Cardiac Arrest Patient with Emergency Treatment

On the 9th of last month, in the departure lounge of Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, a foreign passenger waiting for a flight suddenly collapsed. A Korean traveler who happened to witness the scene immediately rushed over, checked the patient's consciousness, and together with a doctor present at the scene, performed emergency treatment using an automated external defibrillator (AED). The patient, who was in cardiac arrest with no consciousness or breathing, regained breathing and pulse after about five minutes of emergency treatment and was safely handed over to the local emergency medical team.

The person who saved the collapsed patient was Eun Seong-yong (33), a firefighter from the Yongin Fire Station Mobile 119 Safety Center in Gyeonggi Province. Eun, who was traveling abroad at the time, calmly responded to the emergency situation he happened to witness, saving a precious life. The doctor who assisted with the emergency treatment alongside Eun was Professor Choi Il-guk, an emergency medical guidance doctor from the National Fire Agency.


After this fact became known later, Eun was awarded a commendation as a model citizen for saving a life at the Yongin City Council Chairman's office on the 6th. He stated, "I just did what a firefighter should do," and added, "I hope CPR education will be further expanded so that anyone can act courageously in emergency situations."


An Gi-seung, chief of the Yongin Fire Station, said, "We are grateful for Eun's composure and strong sense of duty in calmly and promptly responding to save a life in a critical situation," and added, "Yongin Fire Station will continue to do its best for the safety of citizens."
