West Sea Coast Guard Recruiting '2025 Coastal Safety Keepers'

Recruiting 40 Coastal Safety Guardians
to Serve in Hazardous Coastal Areas of Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do

The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Commissioner Lee Myungjun) announced on the 6th that it will be recruiting 40 Coastal Safety Guardians who will be active in hazardous coastal areas of Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do from May to October.

Coastal Safety Guardians are local residents who are well-acquainted with the characteristics of the coastline. They are stationed at various dangerous locations nationwide to provide information such as tide times and safety guidelines, inspect safety facilities such as warning signs and rescue equipment boxes, and assist the Coast Guard by quickly reporting and supporting rescue operations in case of coastal accidents.

As a result of operating the Coastal Safety Guardians, the Coast Guard found that coastal accidents in the assigned areas decreased by 31.6% compared to the same period over the past five years. This year, a total of 40 people will be selected and assigned to 20 hazardous areas (4 in Gunsan, 2 in Buan, 3 in Wando, 5 in Mokpo, and 6 in Yeosu) to support activities for the prevention of coastal safety accidents.

The application period will run for seven days from the 26th of this month to the 1st of next month. Detailed information can be found on the website of the nearest regional Coast Guard station or through the responsible department (Maritime Safety Division).

A Coast Guard official stated, "With the prolonged heat and heatwaves, we expect many citizens to visit coastal areas such as beaches," and added, "We ask for the active participation and interest of local residents to minimize coastal safety accidents at places like breakwaters along the coast."
