"All-Out Efforts to Revitalize the Local Low-Income Economy"
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has decided to join forces with local governments to focus all efforts on the rapid execution of local finances to revive the local low-income economy.
On the 6th, the Ministry held a meeting of the Planning and Coordination Directors of 17 cities and provinces to discuss this matter.
First, local governments and local public enterprises will hold weekly rapid execution inspection meetings and thoroughly manage the execution status, mobilizing all capabilities to achieve the rapid execution targets for the first half of the year.
Cities and provinces will conduct focused management such as on-site inspections targeting local governments and public enterprises with poor execution rates, and to strengthen the execution of facility expenses that have a significant impact on the local economy, they plan to utilize rapid execution guidelines to the fullest extent to pay advances and progress payments.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will actively collect difficulties faced by local governments, such as non-allocation of national funds, and plans to promptly resolve these issues through consultations with related ministries at the weekly government-wide financial execution inspection meetings hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Additionally, the Ministry recently established a dedicated department called the 'Shared Property Policy Division' to establish a management system for shared properties, which are major assets of local governments, and to strengthen cooperation between the national government and local governments. Accordingly, local governments were asked to cooperate in improving the utilization of shared properties by organizing idle properties and others. In particular, they were urged to complete the 'Comprehensive Survey of Shared Properties,' which involves cross-checking and organizing local governments' shared property ledgers and other official registers, by the deadline in June without fail.
Han Soon-gi, Director of Local Finance and Economy at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "The role of local governments, which respond directly on the ground, is important to revive the local economy," and added, "We will continue to cooperate with local governments so that residents can feel the recovery of the local economy."
