"Do Not Commit a Crime Against History," Warns Lee Jae-myung
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged restraint against inciting violence toward the judiciary on the 6th, saying, "Do not commit a crime against history."
On the same day, Lee posted on his Facebook, "I warn you. Inciting violence will surely come with consequences," expressing this stance.
He stated, "The Republic of Korea is a great 'Daehan Gukmin' nation that has accomplished a peaceful revolution that will be remembered in history," adding, "No violence can kill justice. The level of civility in Korea is not one that can be swayed by violence."
He then quoted Martin Luther King, saying, "Violence may bring temporary results but cannot bring permanent peace. It only creates new, more complicated problems," emphasizing, "If you have opinions, persuade and move hearts. That is the principle and foundation of a democratic republic."
This is interpreted as a warning message in response to the growing voices of supporters predicting 'riots' as the Constitutional Court's ruling on President Yoon Seok-youl's impeachment trial approaches.
Since the impeachment trial against President Yoon began on January 14 this year, over 500 posts containing the word 'riot' have been posted on the Constitutional Court's free bulletin board as of the 4th of this month. These posts mainly contain incitements or warnings to stage large-scale riots in defiance if the court upholds the impeachment. In fact, a man in his 30s who recently wrote a post saying "Set fire to the Constitutional Court" was arrested.
