Gyeonggi Province will provide a total of 39.5 billion KRW this year for four major projects, including integrated support for middle and high school freshmen uniforms (daily wear and sportswear), in cooperation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.
On the 6th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will invest 39.5 billion KRW of provincial funds in four educational cooperation projects: integrated uniform support, operation of a regional education cooperation platform, creation of eco-friendly playgrounds, and traffic safety guidance on school routes.
First, the integrated uniform support project for middle and high school freshmen provides group uniform purchase costs worth 400,000 KRW per student to 268,000 freshmen entering middle and high schools in the province. Gyeonggi Province began supporting middle school freshmen uniforms in 2019 and has since expanded the beneficiaries to include freshmen uniforms for both middle and high schools, as well as daily wear purchase support for students in schools that do not require uniforms.
The regional education cooperation platform operation project utilizes human and material educational resources within the region to provide various learning opportunities outside of school.
The main support programs include a total of 2,500 programs such as the ‘Student-Planned Program,’ where students select topics and carry out projects themselves; the ‘University-Linked Program,’ which helps career exploration and specialized learning in connection with universities; and the ‘Regional Institution Contribution Program,’ where local institutions participate to provide customized education for students.
The eco-friendly playground creation project reconstructs school playgrounds that exceed harmful substance standards or have worn-out artificial turf and elastic pavement materials past their durability period (8 years) into eco-friendly playgrounds. Notably, this year, the budget has been doubled from last year’s 3.75 billion KRW to 7.5 billion KRW, supporting a total of 62 schools.
To strengthen safety on school routes, a traffic safety guidance project will be promoted, providing 850 elementary schools with funds to purchase traffic safety guidance items such as light batons, vests, and signal devices, as well as 1 million KRW for operating traffic guidance councils.
Hong Seong-deok, Director of Lifelong Education at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Educational cooperation projects play an important role not only in expanding growth and learning opportunities for students in the province but also in creating a safer educational environment. We will continue to work closely with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education to reflect field opinions and develop sustainable educational support measures."
