National Institute for Korean Medicine Development Holds Meeting on Korean Medicine Health Care Project in Gwangju

Government, Local Authorities, and Korean Medicine Stakeholders Seek Ways to Advance by Identifying Outstanding Models

On March 5, the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development held a meeting at the Seo-gu Office in Gwangju to discuss ways to advance the Korean medicine health care project by identifying outstanding regional models.

The meeting was attended by 25 stakeholders in the Korean medicine community, including Jeong Younghun, Director of Korean Medicine Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare; Lee Jihyun, Head of the Medical Support Center at the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development; and Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.

Seo-gu, Gwangju has built a smart care system for the elderly and expanded the scope of its services to include not only seniors but also people with disabilities and discharged patients with mobility difficulties, by establishing clear performance indicators and conducting high-quality outcome analyses for the successful implementation of the Korean medicine health care project.

Based on these achievements, Seo-gu received the top prize at the 2024 Korean Medicine Health Care Performance Competition.

Jeong Younghun, Director of Korean Medicine Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, stated, "With the rise of aging and chronic diseases, the importance of health care is coming to the forefront. To successfully implement the Korean medicine health care project, it is crucial to establish successful models through active cooperation between local governments and branches and chapters of the Korean Medicine Association."

Going forward, the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development plans to strengthen the foundation of the Korean medicine health care project and expand it nationwide by discovering outstanding business models through local resource linkage and providing customized consulting tailored to regional characteristics.
