On the 5th, the brother-in-law of Oh Sehyun, the Democratic Party of Korea's preliminary candidate running for Asan Mayor in South Chungcheong Province on July 2, filed a police complaint against the People Power Party for defamation.
Through a press release on the same day, Oh stated that his brother-in-law had filed complaints at the Asan Police Station against Kim Youngseok, Chairman of the South Chungcheong Provincial Party of the People Power Party, Jeon Mankwon, head of the Asan Party Association, and the representative of a banner company, warning that he would respond strongly to the raising of false suspicions.
He said, "We will hold those who raise indiscriminate suspicions without any basis for electoral gain fully civilly and criminally liable," adding, "This by-election is being held at a cost of about 2.3 billion won in taxpayers' money due to election crimes, and now the public's view is being further clouded."
He continued, "The citizens themselves will judge this bad habit of tarnishing their honor in this election," and emphasized, "Indiscriminate suspicion is proof that one cannot earn the citizens' recognition through competence."
Regarding the controversy over the self-development of Punggi Station, he rebutted, "Former Mayor Park Kyungkwi requested a public audit from the Board of Audit and Inspection, but it was dismissed in August last year," and criticized, "It is extremely irrational for the People Power Party to raise suspicions, claiming they cannot trust the Board of Audit and Inspection under the Yoon Sukyeol administration."
Meanwhile, Oh was reported to the South Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency earlier this year on suspicion of arranging a fake employment for his brother-in-law at a company in Sunchang County, North Jeolla Province, through his political secretary during his term as mayor.
