"We Will Do Our Utmost for the Successful Hosting of the Expo"
The Organizing Committee for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo (Co-Chairs: Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do; Chung Kimyung, Mayor of Yeosu; Park Sookwan, CEO of YC-TEC) appointed Kim Jonggi, former Deputy Mayor of Yeosu, as Secretary-General on the 5th.
The committee had been recruiting for the vacant Secretary-General position from civilian candidates, and presented the letter of appointment at Yeosu City Hall on the 5th.

The term will last until the end of the expo, and Kim Jonggi will oversee the entire organizing committee and lead all aspects of the Island Expo.
Kim Jonggi, the new Secretary-General, has over 38 years of experience in major roles such as policy planning, investment attraction, and tourism promotion in Jeollanam-do, Yeosu, Gwangyang, and Jangseong.
In particular, he has extensive experience in preparing and operating international events, having been dispatched to the organizing committees of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and the F1 International Competition.
Kim Jonggi stated his ambition, "The entire organizing committee will do our utmost to prepare for the successful hosting of the Island Expo."
Meanwhile, the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, under the theme "Islands, Connecting the Sea and the Future," will be held for two months from September 5 to November 4, 2026, at Jinmo District in Dolsan, Gaedo, Geumodo, and the Yeosu World Expo site in Yeosu.
