Capacity-Building Training for 148 Resource Circulation Managers
Promoting a Resident-Led Waste Separation Culture

On the 5th, Seo-gu District in Gwangju held a capacity-building training session for 148 resource circulation managers responsible for operating resource circulation stores at the Deulbul Hall in the Seo-gu District Office.

According to Seo-gu, this training was organized to enhance the expertise of resource circulation managers, enabling them to effectively communicate the importance of resource circulation and proper waste separation methods in daily life to residents, and to promote a resident-led, sustainable waste separation culture.

The resource circulation stores will begin operating in each neighborhood starting from the 10th. The compensation standards are as follows: 400 KRW per kg for transparent PET bottles, 400 KRW per kg for paper packs (milk cartons), and 500 KRW per kg for aluminum cans. Residents who bring in properly separated recyclables to the resource circulation stores will be compensated accordingly.

Last year, Seo-gu collected over 2.06 million transparent PET bottles, 5,604 kg of paper packs, 7,166 kg of cans, and approximately 86,000 used batteries through the 18 neighborhood resource circulation stores, distributing a total of about 26 million KRW in compensation to 1,604 residents.

Chae Bonggil, head of the Resource Circulation Division, stated, "This training will help resource circulation managers effectively convey the importance of resource circulation to residents," adding, "We will continue to provide support through education and campaigns to promote the spread of a resource circulation culture."

Meanwhile, Seo-gu is accepting applications from apartment complexes wishing to participate in the 'Outstanding Resource Circulation Apartment Contest' until the 7th. Performance in reducing food waste and collecting used batteries and fluorescent lamps will be evaluated, and ten outstanding apartment complexes will be selected and awarded around November.
