"Our Semiconductor Industry Still Faces Turbulent Waves"
Kwack No-jeong Reflects on Three Years as Chairman
Emphasizes the Need to Maintain Global Leadership
Kwack No-jeong, President of SK Hynix and the 13th Chairman of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, stated, "Our semiconductor industry is still in the midst of a turbulent wave," and emphasized, "We must pay attention to not lose global leadership."
President Kwack reflected on his three-year term as chairman at the '2025 Korea Semiconductor Industry Association and Research Consortium General Meeting' held on the morning of the 5th at the DoubleTree by Hilton Pangyo in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. He said, "Looking back, our semiconductor industry has truly been in a period of great upheaval over the past three years," and recalled, "We experienced the COVID-19 pandemic and an unprecedented downturn."

He emphasized, "We have gone through global semiconductor restructuring and changes in the competitive landscape among countries," adding, "Although we have overcome difficulties and maintained the solid status of Korean semiconductors, new technologies emerge almost daily, and unpredictable business environments continue to arise."
President Kwack said, "During my term as chairman, we made many efforts such as enacting the Semiconductor Special Act and establishing semiconductor funds, but it is also true that many issues remain unresolved," and added, "I hope that the next chairman, (Song Jae-hyuk), and the executive team will tackle the challenges I could not solve with insight and wisdom."
Meanwhile, the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association elected Song Jae-hyuk, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Samsung Electronics' DS (Device Solutions) division, as the next chairman. The term is three years.
