Yeongju City Begins Full-Scale Night Extended Care for Obstetrics and Pediatrics Departments

Improving Medical Accessibility for Working Mothers and Pediatric Patients

Yeongju City Public Health Center in Gyeongbuk Province (Director Kim Moon-su) will implement extended night-time obstetrics and pediatrics services starting in March.

This project is part of the 'Gyeongsangbuk-do Obstetrics and Pediatrics ONE-hour Treatment System,' which operates extended treatment hours on weekday nights to ensure that mothers and children can quickly receive the necessary medical services.

To promote the project, participating medical institutions were recruited starting in January, with one obstetrics clinic (Lee Chan-eung Obstetrics and Gynecology) and one pediatrics clinic (Malgeun Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic) applying. After a review process, final approval was obtained from Gyeongbuk Province at the end of February, and full operation began in March.

Participating medical institutions autonomously designate night treatment days and operate extended treatment hours until 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. On the first Sunday of each month, treatment is provided from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Additionally, extended treatment is available until 8 p.m. every Thursday evening to support access to pediatric and adolescent medical services during night hours.

Through this extended treatment operation, it is expected to reduce childcare burdens for dual-income families, improve medical accessibility for pregnant women and children, and have a positive impact on encouraging childbirth.

Park Young-hwa, Director of the Infectious Disease Control Division, stated, “To overcome low birth rates, we will cooperate with participating medical institutions to enhance citizens' access to medical care and do our best to ensure that mothers and children can use medical services more safely.”
