Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that it is operating an Emergency Care Center to address care gaps for people with developmental disabilities caused by unexpected situations such as the sudden hospitalization of guardians or family events.

The Emergency Care Center is operated by the Jeonnam Association of the Deaf with support from Jeollanam-do Province, renting two units (each 84㎡, 34 pyeong) in Booyoung 2nd Apartment Complex in Bitgaram-dong.

The center stands out for its user-oriented, customized design. Male and female users are assigned separate spaces to minimize discomfort. By renting units on the first floor, the risk of falling is prevented and noise issues are reduced, reflecting thoughtful consideration. Eligible users are registered individuals with intellectual or autism spectrum disabilities, aged 6 or older but under 65.

In principle, applications must be made seven days in advance, but in urgent situations, same-day applications are possible with supporting documents submitted after using the service, which is expected to further reduce the burden on guardians. The center operates at night, on weekends, and on holidays, enabling 24-hour emergency care and providing customized care services to help maintain the daily routines of people with developmental disabilities. The service is provided free of charge to basic livelihood security recipients and low-income households, alleviating the financial burden on vulnerable groups.

Yoon Byungtae, Mayor of Naju, said, "We have established the Emergency Care Center so that guardians of people with developmental disabilities can entrust their loved ones with peace of mind even in unexpected situations," adding, "We will continue to build a robust care safety net in the future."
