SKT Partners to Develop Next-Generation Liquid Cooling Technology for AI Data Centers

Giga Computing, a Leader in Liquid Cooling,
Signs Tripartite MOU with SK Enmove for Next-Generation Technology Development
From Technology Verification to Solution Planning
Extensive Collaboration to Optimize Next-Generation Cooling Performance

SKT Partners to Develop Next-Generation Liquid Cooling Technology for AI Data Centers SK Telecom announced on the 5th (local time) at MWC25 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Giga Computing, a leader in liquid cooling, and SK Enmove to develop next-generation cooling technology. SK Telecom announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of next-generation cooling technology with 'Giga Computing,' a leader in liquid cooling technology, which is a core technology of AI data centers, and 'SK Enmove,' the first in Korea to venture into immersion cooling technology.

On the 5th (local time) at the 'Mobile World Congress 2025' (MWC2025) held in Barcelona, Spain, an SK Telecom official stated, "By leveraging this global technological cooperation, we will strengthen the design and operational capabilities of next-generation cooling technology that minimizes power consumption and heat generation, which are among the core competencies of AI data centers." He added, "In the long term, we plan to consolidate the capabilities of the group and its partners to develop cooling technology as one of the group-level AI data center solution packages."

Giga Computing, a subsidiary of Giga Byte, is a global tech company providing AI server development, cloud, edge computing, and enterprise IT solutions. It has developed innovative cooling solutions such as direct liquid cooling and tank-type immersion cooling technologies.

Liquid cooling technology uses electrically non-conductive cooling fluids to dissipate heat from servers and key components. It offers superior cooling performance compared to air cooling, which uses cold air intake. Since the competitiveness of cooling technology in AI data centers leads to optimized power consumption, reduced data center operating costs, and enhanced computing performance, SK Telecom has been conducting various technological collaborations and research and development.

SK Enmove possesses raw material competitiveness based on advanced lubricant base oil production, as well as capabilities in cooling fluid design and evaluation.

Through this MOU, the three companies plan to conduct extensive R&D cooperation, including technology verification for optimizing liquid cooling performance, operational verification of key components such as graphics processing units (GPUs), and solution planning for AI data centers.

Giga Computing will provide know-how on liquid cooling technology solutions, while SK Enmove will supply high-quality cooling fluids based on its accumulated expertise in cooling fluid technology over many years.

Initially, to develop optimal solutions from the perspective of AI data center customers, they will begin collaborative technology verification to optimize costs and cooling performance when introducing liquid cooling. Additionally, engineering optimization and technology verification will be conducted for all three types of liquid cooling methods currently applied in the data center industry.

Seunghyun Yang, Head of SK AI R&D Center, said, "We expect this collaboration to accelerate the development of solutions in the liquid cooling field, which is considered a next-generation key technology for AI data centers," adding, "Through cooperation with leading global companies, we will become a global leader with differentiated AI data center operational capabilities."

Daejung Kim, Head of SK Enmove's Green Business Division, stated, "Based on this collaboration, SK Enmove will develop and supply optimized cooling fluids that can maximize data center energy efficiency, contributing to market expansion," and added, "We will further strengthen SK Enmove's position as an 'energy efficiency company'."

Daniel Hu, CEO of Giga Computing, said, "As AI and high-performance computing continue to advance, liquid cooling technology has emerged as a key technology for building sustainable data centers," and added, "Through this MOU, Giga Computing expects to jointly develop next-generation cooling technology that enables more efficient and environmentally sustainable AI data center operations."
