Trump Warns "If Canada Retaliates Against the US, Mutual Tariffs Will Be Imposed Immediately"

Pointing Out: "U.S. Banks Cannot Operate in Canada"

U.S. President Donald Trump warned on the 4th (local time) that he would immediately impose additional reciprocal tariffs in response to Canada’s retaliatory 25% tariff, which took effect at midnight against the United States.

Trump Warns "If Canada Retaliates Against the US, Mutual Tariffs Will Be Imposed Immediately"

On the same day, President Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, "Please explain to Canada’s (Justin) Trudeau, the governor," adding, "If he imposes retaliatory tariffs on the U.S., our reciprocal tariffs will be immediately raised to the same level."

President Trump has previously referred to Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau as the "governor," claiming that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States. The executive order signed on the 1st of last month regarding tariffs on Canada included provisions allowing for increased tariff rates if Canada retaliated, which is interpreted as a public warning to Canada. President Trump even hinted that the global reciprocal tariffs he announced on April 2 could be imposed on Canada immediately.

In another post on Truth Social that day, he pointed out, "Canada does not allow American banks to operate in Canada, but their banks flood the U.S. market." He then sarcastically added, "That seems very fair to me," and asked, "Isn't it?"
