After Listening to Your Call: "Shall I Book a Taxi for You?"... AI Agents Take Center Stage
MWC 2025 Becomes an "AI Battlefield"... Even Humanoids Ask Questions Back
LG Uplus is partnering with Google to integrate the AI model ‘Gemini’ and Google Cloud’s ‘Vertex AI’ into Iksio. This collaboration between a Korean telecom company and a big tech firm marks a significant step forward in AI technology development. Through this, Iksio will evolve into an ‘Actionable AI’ that can suggest necessary actions to users.
On the 3rd (local time), LG Uplus and Google announced a comprehensive cooperation plan including these details at the ‘Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC 2025)’ held in Barcelona, Spain. LG Uplus will utilize Google’s AI model Gemini to enable Iksio to analyze call contexts more precisely and provide call summaries and recommended actions tailored to the situation. Additionally, by leveraging Google Cloud’s ‘Vertex AI’ service, they will introduce a service that allows users to instantly search for objects, situations, or locations related to call content in the future.
At the booth that day, a representative demonstrated the integrated functions of Iksio and Google by holding a mobile phone. Assuming a phone call situation, when the user said, "It will take about 25 minutes by car from here," Iksio opened Google Maps and recommended a route. When the user asked, "Should I take a taxi?" Iksio responded, "Shall I book a taxi for you?" Until now, the service only analyzed user call content to recommend customized videos, but going forward, it will instantly search for related places or objects mentioned during calls and even offer opinions. Iksio’s actionable AI feature is scheduled to be available to LG Uplus mobile customers within this year.
Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, said at the event, "We will introduce differentiated services that add convenience to AI through cooperation with Google and expand into the global market," adding, "We will lead the AI ecosystem by collaborating with various global companies and dominating the global market."
Overseas Companies Also Mobilize AI Technology... Extending Beyond Smartphones to Sports and Hobbies
This year’s ‘MWC 2025’ can be described as the ‘Expansion of AI.’ At the ‘Fira Gran Via’ exhibition center in Barcelona, Spain, where the event was held, the letters ‘AI (Artificial Intelligence)’ were prominently displayed at booths set up by IT companies from around the world. The various technologies and services exhibited proved that AI is expanding beyond smartphones to robots, wearable devices, autonomous driving, and industrial solutions.
Chinese company Huawei, the largest sponsor of MWC, filled most of the first-floor hall of the exhibition center, showcasing an overwhelming presence. Huawei’s golf system generated data such as impact strength, body movement, and angles with every swing and analyzed it in real time. This allowed users to experience training as if receiving guidance from a professional coach. Additionally, a popular experience zone allowed users wearing smartwatches while sitting on indoor cycling equipment to monitor healthcare information such as heart rate in real time.
At the Xiaomi booth, many visitors gathered to see the latest electric vehicle ‘SU7 Ultra,’ which features an emerald-colored luxury sports car exterior. When driving the car, an AI assistant called ‘Xiao Ai’ adjusts the seat to fit the driver’s body shape and guides them to their destination. There is also a function that automatically cleans the house with a robot vacuum cleaner before the driver arrives home. Xiaomi showcased an AI technology ecosystem extending to wearable devices and smart TVs.
Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo introduced its self-developed extended reality (XR) glasses ‘Mirza2.’ When wearing these glasses, visual and audio guides for writing Japanese characters were provided. Users could experience the fusion of XR technology and Japanese culture by following the guides displayed on the glasses and writing Japanese characters with a brush.
Throughout the exhibition hall, AI robots including humanoids interacted with visitors, showcasing the future of technology. In particular, China’s tech company Unitree Robotics’ G1 humanoid robot walked briskly around the exhibition hall, instantly capturing visitors’ attention. This robot’s walking and movements closely resembled those of a real human, demonstrating the evolution of robotics technology.
The humanoid ‘Amira’ introduced by the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s leading telecom operator ‘e& Group’ attracted attention with its remarkably human-like appearance. When asked, "The role of AI is becoming increasingly important," the robot responded by asking, "Are you excited or scared about a world where AI will become more advanced?" This interactive conversational style, rather than a simple answer, demonstrated the level of advancement in AI technology.
