Mapo-gu to Host 5km, 10km, and Half Marathon at World Cup Park on April 19
Last Year, a 1.1km Honorary Road Named "Seo Yun-bok-gil" Established Between Ewha Womans University Station and Daehung Station, Home to Soongmoon High School, the Late Seo Yun-bok's Alma Mater
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the "1st Mapo Seo Yun-bok Marathon" at World Cup Park on April 19.
The late athlete Seo Yun-bok is a legend of Korean marathon running, having won the 51st Boston Marathon, an international marathon event, shortly after liberation by setting a world record while carrying the Taegeukgi for the first time. He is also the protagonist of the film "1947 Boston."
Seo Yun-bok's victory at that time comforted the Korean people who had suffered under Japanese colonial rule and filled the Korean Peninsula with joy.
In response, Mapo-gu planned a marathon named after Seo Yun-bok to honor the late athlete and widely promote his great achievements.
This year's race course starts at Mapo-gu's World Cup Park and runs along the Han River. There are three categories: 5km, 10km, and half marathon, with a total of 7,000 participants being recruited.
On the day of the event, Mapo-gu will secure a safe environment for participants by controlling traffic on some roads from World Cup Park to Guryong Intersection.
Additionally, the 5km race has a time limit of 1 hour, the 10km race 1 hour 30 minutes, and the half marathon 3 hours, allowing participants to run without pressure.
The marathon is open to all ages and genders, and registration can be completed online through the official event website.

Last year, Mapo-gu designated a 1.1km section from Ewha Womans University Station to Daehung Station, where the late Seo Yun-bok’s alma mater Soongmoon High School is located, as the honorary road "Seo Yun-bok-gil." Also, the Ewha Green Rest Area was renamed "Seo Yun-bok Rest Area" so that many visitors can share in the glory of the Boston Marathon.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The 'Mapo Seo Yun-bok Marathon' will be an occasion to honor and remember Seo Yun-bok, who brought hope and joy to our people," adding, "I hope everyone participating in the event will feel the glory of the Boston Marathon and spend a time regaining health and vitality."
