Trekking Courses Accessible for All
Free Bicycle Travel Guide Provided
SR, the operator of the Suseo High-Speed Railway (SRT), announced on the 2nd that it has selected 100 domestic travel destinations to celebrate the 100th issue of its in-flight magazine, SRT Magazine.
Launched in December 2016 alongside the opening of the SRT, SRT Magazine has been providing domestic and international travel information for eight years. In the March issue, the magazine selected essential domestic travel destinations by combining on-site reporting by journalists, expert opinions, travel convenience, and reader feedback.
The selected travel destinations are categorized into 11 themes: ▲Trekking (walking travel) ▲Gourmet ▲Culture & History ▲Night Views ▲Activity Healing ▲Scenic Views ▲Islands ▲Walking Traveler ▲Retro ▲Pet-Friendly, and more.
In the trekking course category, the Heyri Barrier-Free Sunset Forest Trail in Paju, Gyeonggi Province was included. This is a 1 km long barrier-free trekking course designed for those with mobility difficulties, featuring wooden decks leading all the way to the summit, allowing anyone to travel comfortably. From the summit, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Odusan Unification Observatory, Heyri Art Village, and Unification Hill.
For gourmet travel destinations, the Strawberry Street in Wanju County, Jeonbuk, and the Seolmeori Mulhoe District in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, were selected. Wanju’s Strawberry Street is famous for its crisp and soft strawberries grown in well-drained sandy soil. Near the Samnye Interchange Road, there are many shops selling fresh strawberries, and visitors can also experience strawberry picking in greenhouses. Pohang’s Seolmeori Mulhoe District is known for its Pohang-style mulhoe, which is mixed only with chili paste sauce, unlike the broth-type mulhoe. This method preserves the original taste of the ingredients. The area is home to about 20 mulhoe specialty restaurants, including some that have been in business for over 30 years.
For healing travel, the Cypress Forest in Gonggi Village, Wanju, Jeonbuk was selected. The forest is densely populated with about 100,000 cypress and cedar trees, making it quite dark even during the day. There is also a cypress bath using sulfur water where visitors can soak their feet and relax.
As a scenic viewpoint, the Space Walk at Hwanho Park in Pohang was chosen. It is the largest experiential sculpture in Korea, consisting of a 333-meter-long track and 717 steps. It was selected as one of the 19 most beautiful staircases in the world. From here, visitors can enjoy night views of the Pohang steelworks and sunrises and sunsets over Yeolilman.
SRT Magazine also produced a bromide-style guide titled "60 Representative Bicycle Free Travel Courses." It maps out courses recommended by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, analyzing route safety and surrounding scenery. This bromide, produced at nine times the size of the magazine, is provided free of charge to all SRT passengers nationwide.
To commemorate the 100th issue special, SRT Magazine is holding a social media (SNS) event. Until the 30th of next month, participants can upload photos verifying their visits on Instagram with the hashtags '#SRTMagazine100' and '#100DomesticTravelDestinations.' A total of 100 winners will be selected by lottery and awarded prizes, with winners announced in the June issue and on the webzine.
SRT Magazine is available on SRT seats and provides travel information to about 3 million passengers monthly. It offers various content such as the "One-Page Travel" section featuring maps and the "Book-in-Book," a booklet-style travel guide. Both "One-Page Travel" and "Book-in-Book" are produced not only in Korean but also in English, Chinese, and Japanese, making them popular among foreign tourists as well.
