Previously, Ulju-gun promoted the construction of a multipurpose cultural center equipped with various facilities such as convenience, culture, and welfare to enhance youth inflow functions and improve the welfare environment for workers in the aging Sangbuk Industrial Complex.
From December last year, the architectural (re)design competition was held, with a total of 40 teams registering and 18 works submitted.
To ensure fair evaluation, Ulju-gun formed a panel of judges consisting of architecture experts, including university professors and architects, and after reviewing the submissions, "Welfare of Space," which proposed a rich and vibrant space, was finally selected.
The winning design received high praise from the judges for its site layout considering the surroundings and the diversity of access routes connecting the exterior and interior spaces.
The architectural firms Mir and Isu, winners of this design competition, will be granted the basic and detailed design rights for the construction of the Sangbuk Industrial Complex Multipurpose Cultural Center. In addition, prize money will be awarded to other winners: 8.48 million KRW for the grand prize, 6.36 million KRW for excellence, and 4.24 million KRW for encouragement awards.
Based on the final winning design, Ulju-gun plans to proceed with the basic and detailed design by September and aims to complete the construction of the Sangbuk Industrial Complex Multipurpose Cultural Center by June 2027.
The Sangbuk Industrial Complex Multipurpose Cultural Center will be built with an estimated construction cost of 4.07 billion KRW and a design fee of 210 million KRW, consisting of three above-ground floors with a total floor area of 1,232.16㎡. Internal facilities will include a multipurpose auditorium, meeting rooms, a gym, club rooms, laundry room, and lounge.
