Chungnam Province to Invest 255.1 Billion KRW This Year
Large-Scale Agricultural Infrastructure Improvement Projects in 309 Districts
Chungnam Province announced on the 27th that it will invest 255.1 billion KRW this year to carry out a large-scale project to improve agricultural production infrastructure across 309 districts.
The agricultural infrastructure improvement projects to be implemented by the province this year include: ▲ Repair and renovation of irrigation facilities in 108 districts with 89.2 billion KRW ▲ Drainage improvement in 40 districts with 56.9 billion KRW ▲ Multipurpose rural water development in 7 districts with 23.6 billion KRW ▲ Agricultural infrastructure improvement in 31 districts with 16.7 billion KRW ▲ Reorganization of rural water use systems in 3 districts with 15.8 billion KRW, among others.
In addition, the province will invest ▲ 14.8 billion KRW in repair and renovation of seawalls in 16 districts ▲ 10.3 billion KRW in small-scale rural development in 86 districts ▲ 8.2 billion KRW in water quality investigation and improvement of agricultural water in 2 districts ▲ 6.8 billion KRW in reinforcement of aging and hazardous reservoirs in 13 districts ▲ 3.1 billion KRW in automation of agricultural water management in 1 district ▲ 400 million KRW in establishing a universal water supply system for rice paddies in 1 district.
In particular, the province has continuously requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to include new projects to prevent frequent flooding of farmland, and as a result, secured national funding for new projects this year: ▲ 74.1 billion KRW in total project cost (5.4 billion KRW this year) for repair and renovation of irrigation facilities in 42 districts ▲ 332.4 billion KRW in total project cost (2.6 billion KRW this year) for drainage improvement in 22 districts.
Lee Jeongsam, Director of the Provincial Agriculture and Livestock Bureau, said, "Improving and expanding aging agricultural production infrastructure is an important project that not only prevents disasters but also establishes a stable farming foundation, thereby increasing farmers' income. We will do our utmost to secure national funding to enhance the convenience of farming for local farmers."
