[AK Radio] Exposure, Exposure... What Myung Tae-gyun's Mouth Is Targeting

Prosecutors Accelerate Investigation Into Myeong Taegyun Allegations
Oh Sehoon, Hong Joonpyo, and Others Strongly Refute Myeong's Claims
Investigation Into First Lady Kim Kunhee Expected to Intensify

As the impeachment trial arguments against President Yoon Suk-yeol conclude, a series of revelations from Mr. Myeong Taegyun's side are emerging. The prosecution's investigation is also accelerating. On the 27th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office plans to summon Mr. Myeong for questioning. The prosecution's dedicated investigation team (led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Ji-hyung) conducted a search and seizure on the morning of the 26th at the home and office of businessman Kim Han-jung, who is suspected of secretly paying for a public opinion poll related to Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. The Democratic Party plans to pass the 'Myeong Taegyun Special Prosecutor Act (a bill concerning the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate illegal election interference and state affairs manipulation related to Myeong Taegyun)' in the plenary session on the 27th, after it passed the Legislation and Judiciary Committee yesterday.

[AK Radio] Exposure, Exposure... What Myung Tae-gyun's Mouth Is Targeting The Democratic Party plans to make the final decision on the 'Myeong Taegyun Special Prosecutor Act' at the plenary session on the 27th.

The People Power Party is opposing the Myeong Taegyun Special Prosecutor Act as a unified front without distinction between 'pro-Yoon' and 'pro-Han' factions. If the bill passes in the plenary session, it is expected that Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance, will be recommended to exercise the right to request reconsideration (veto power). If the veto is exercised, a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly members is required to override it. For this to happen, about eight members of the People Power Party would need to defect, which is currently considered unlikely.

Mr. Myeong recently revealed information related to Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo. But it does not stop there. Reports have emerged that Mr. Myeong's so-called 'golden phone' contains contact information for over 140 current and former members of the National Assembly. It is uncertain what further information might surface. For the Democratic Party, if an early presidential election is triggered, this situation could serve as a kind of 'trump card.' Mayors Oh and Hong have strongly denied Mr. Myeong's claims and have taken legal action.

[AK Radio] Exposure, Exposure... What Myung Tae-gyun's Mouth Is Targeting Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo filed complaints against Mr. Myeong Taekyun nine times.

On the 24th, Mr. Myeong claimed that Mayor Hong met with him along with Assemblyman Lee Jun-seok and that he also arranged a meeting between Mayor Hong and President Yoon Suk-yeol. He asserted that he met Mayor Hong four times, specifying exact locations and times. He even stated, "I met him more often than my father-in-law," and "We talked four or five times a day." He claimed that Park [name withheld], a close aide to Mayor Hong, commissioned a public opinion poll related to the Daegu mayoral race, and that Choi [name withheld], a high school classmate of Mayor Hong's son, paid 46 million won to commission the poll.

Mayor Hong strongly denied these allegations, saying, "He is a fraud. None of this is true," and "I have never met Mr. Myeong even once. If there is even one recording of my voice on the so-called 'golden phone,' produce it." Regarding the poll, he stated, "It was conducted by an aide and has nothing to do with me or my campaign," and "I have never been briefed on it." To date, Mayor Hong has filed nine lawsuits and complaints against Mr. Myeong.

[AK Radio] Exposure, Exposure... What Myung Tae-gyun's Mouth Is Targeting Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon denied any connection with Mr. Myung and announced plans to take legal action against the Democratic Party.

Revelations related to Mayor Oh Se-hoon are also continuing. In a transcript released on the 26th, Mr. Myeong expressed dissatisfaction, saying, "The type I hate most is the betrayer type, and Mayor Oh is that kind," and "I told him to take care of Kim Young-sun, but he didn't." He also said, "He could become president just by staying still," "Kim Jong-in (former emergency committee chairman) even made a presidential plan," and "He begged me to save him."

Mayor Oh's camp responded, saying, "Mr. Myeong himself admitted that he was disgraced and kicked out of Oh Se-hoon's campaign," and "We will take legal action against the Democratic Party for presenting a fraudster's lies as evidence." They denied the claim that businessman Kim Han-jung bore 33 million won in polling costs, stating, "The poll was conducted completely independently."

Meanwhile, in an interview, Kim Han-jung claimed that besides the polling costs for Mayor Oh, he also covered the polling costs during Assemblyman Lee Jun-seok's People Power Party leadership race and President Yoon Suk-yeol's presidential primary. In response, Assemblyman Lee Jun-seok strongly denied this, saying, "I have never had a single phone call or text exchange with a person named Kim Han-jung," "There is no record of communication," and "I really wonder why they are targeting someone they don't even know." Assemblyman Lee also released screenshots of his phone calls, KakaoTalk, and Facebook messages to prove his point.

[AK Radio] Exposure, Exposure... What Myung Tae-gyun's Mouth Is Targeting It is known that Myung Tae-kyun's "Golden Phone" contains contact information for over 140 current and former members of the National Assembly.

Why does Mr. Myeong continue to make these revelations? Several analyses have emerged. First, it is believed that he is trying to be designated as a 'whistleblower' by actively cooperating with the Democratic Party regarding allegations of interference in the Yoon presidential couple's nomination, in order to survive. In fact, Mr. Myeong recently applied to the Democratic Party as a whistleblower through his lawyer.

Second, as new facts related to First Lady Kim Kun-hee gradually emerge, it is analyzed that Mr. Myeong aims to provide justification for summoning her for investigation. This is intended to compel the prosecution to investigate. Third, there is an interpretation that he intends to demonstrate his influence during the People Power Party presidential primary process. Some claim this is to support Assemblyman Lee Jun-seok.

The truthfulness of Mr. Myeong's claims is not yet clear. Currently, these are only his assertions and have not been confirmed through prosecution investigations or other verification processes. Although transcripts have been released, judgment should be made within the full context, and it is difficult to determine the truth based on partial recordings alone.

As the prosecution investigates Mr. Myeong, the substance of the case is expected to gradually come to light. However, intertwined with the early presidential election, Mr. Myeong's revelations are likely to remain a significant political issue. In particular, the prosecution's investigation into First Lady Kim Kun-hee is expected to proceed closely linked to Mr. Myeong's disclosures.
