The Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 27th that it will conduct type approval inspections for 300 new container transport freight train cars by next year.
This inspection system approves the vehicle design and the manufacturer's quality management system in advance to ensure the product safety of railway vehicles. It checks whether the minimum safety standards required during production are met. As part of this inspection, the authority plans to complete type approval, manufacturer approval, and final inspections for mass-produced vehicles by next year.
Earlier, on the 6th, a joint meeting was held with specialized institutions to plan the final inspection. They agreed to establish a cooperative system to conduct inspections quickly and accurately according to the vehicle production schedule. The authority stated that they discussed efficient ways to proceed, including closely consulting on the scope and procedures of the final inspection and sharing inspection results.
Previously, the authority conducted the type approval inspection for the domestic only special freight train, Shunabelka, capable of transporting large transformers, for the first time last year. Jeong Yong-sik, Director of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, said, "We will thoroughly implement type approval inspections to ensure safety and quality when producing new railway vehicles."
