Growth Research analyzed on the 27th that SG's eco-friendly product ‘Eco Steel Ascon’ can be actively utilized in the reconstruction projects of Ukraine.
Kim Juhyung, a researcher at Growth Research, stated in the report on the same day, "SG is the No. 1 asphalt concrete (Ascon) company in Korea, and its main product, Ascon, is used for paving ports, tunnels, airport runways, roads, and more," adding, "As of the third quarter of 2024, the sales composition consists of 56.4% Ascon and 36.3% merchandise and construction sales."
He continued, "The company plans to actively utilize its newly developed product ‘Eco Steel Ascon’ in Ukraine's reconstruction projects. ‘Eco Steel Ascon,’ for which a patent application was filed in Ukraine in May 2023, secured approval from the authorities in December 2024," and added, "In December 2023 and January 2024, SG secured orders worth a total of 35 billion KRW from two local Ascon production and paving companies in Ukraine, and announced a joint promotion of the ‘road restoration project,’ a core part of Ukraine’s reconstruction, with POSCO International."
SG developed the eco-friendly Ascon ‘Eco Steel Ascon’ by utilizing industrial byproduct slag. Eco Steel Ascon uses strong steelmaking slag instead of natural aggregates, offering superior performance. Compared to regular Ascon, it features high strength, low noise, durability, and economic efficiency. In road pavement condition evaluations, its pavement lifespan was about 64 months, approximately 2.2 times longer than the typical Ascon pavement lifespan of about 30 months.
Researcher Kim emphasized, "SG has established a production base by signing a local consignment production contract and leasing the Ascon factory site in Oleksandriia, located in the very center of Ukraine," adding, "Since Ukraine is a steel powerhouse with abundant slag resources, it is expected to be advantageous for producing the new product."
