Gyeonggi-do Provides 50 Million KRW for Safety Management Installation at Small-Scale Hazardous Chemical Sites

Gyeonggi Province will provide up to 50 million KRW for the installation and improvement of safety facilities and the purchase of safety devices for small and medium-sized enterprises with inadequate hazardous chemical safety management and facilities.

This is a follow-up measure to the joint inspections conducted in three phases last June to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents like the 'Hwaseong Factory Fire.'

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it will publicly recruit applicants until March 17 and plans to complete the project by December.

The support conditions require a 20% self-payment, and the eligible companies must be small and medium-sized enterprises handling hazardous chemicals located in the 11 cities and counties that have allocated budgets (Ansan, Anseong, Yeoju, Osan, Yongin, Uiwang, Icheon, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, Gimpo, Paju).

The hazardous chemical safety facilities eligible for support include micro exhaust devices and external leakage prevention equipment, while safety devices include gas and leak detectors, disaster prevention supplies, and protective gear.

Gyeonggi Province expects this project, which provides subsidies for facility costs at hazardous chemical workplaces, to greatly contribute to strengthening safety management and raising awareness at workplaces.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Voluntary efforts by companies are most important to strengthen safety management at small-scale hazardous chemical workplaces," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will continue to promote support projects linked with workplace consulting in the future."
