Interview with the Company's Newsroom
Key Figure in Leading HBM Development and Mass Production... Appointed as Executive This Year
"HBM3E 12-stack Has High Process Technology Difficulty
Technical Challenges Will Increase as Products Evolve"
Han Kwon-hwan, Vice President of HBM Convergence Technology at SK Hynix, stated in an interview with the company's newsroom on the 26th, "We are collaborating with various operating systems to improve the flexibility of the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) production line, and from the development stage, the development and mass production teams are working as one to enhance production efficiency through closer collaboration with customers." He expressed his ambition, saying, "SK Hynix will contribute to taking a step forward as a full-stack artificial intelligence (AI) memory provider."
Vice President Han joined SK Hynix in 2002 and participated in the initial development of HBM. Since then, he has led the development and mass production of all generations of HBM products, playing a key role in establishing the company's strong position in the HBM market. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed as a new executive this year.
Vice President Han said, "To gain an advantage in the HBM market competition, technology is fundamental, but it is also essential to supply the best products to customers in a timely manner." He added, "Through technological and operational innovation, we will establish a collaborative system that can respond swiftly to market and customer demands and ensure stable mass production by doing our best in our responsibilities." Regarding the most important task for this year, he emphasized, "It is to respond stably to the increasing market demand while solidly preparing the technology for the mass production of next-generation HBM."
He also noted, "The HBM3E (5th generation HBM) 12-stack product, which will be the main product produced this year, has a higher process technology difficulty compared to the existing 8-stack product. Furthermore, technical challenges will increase with the evolving generations of next-generation HBM products." He forecasted, "Although we will overcome many technical challenges during the development process and start mass production, unexpected variables may arise during the rapid increase in production volume, and resolving them will be very difficult. The HBM Convergence Technology organization plans to focus on predicting these in advance and preparing thorough response strategies."
Vice President Han emphasized safety and communication as the most important values amid the rapidly changing market environment, stating, "We are currently growing rapidly and must focus on achieving our goals." He concluded, "Going forward, we will continue to communicate and collaborate with our members to build a stronger SK Hynix."
