On the 26th, KT announced that it has enhanced security against hacking threats by applying quantum encryption technology to its 5G USIM network.


The newly introduced technology is a 'Hybrid Quantum Encryption Communication Network,' which, simply put, is a system that uses two powerful security methods together. This network protects both KT's internal network and the external internet across a total distance of 580 km with 15 connection points.


The 5G USIM network is a critical communication network used for identity verification when subscribing to mobile phones or exchanging USIM chip information. KT explained, "With the advancement of technologies such as quantum computers, this network could be exposed to hacking threats," adding, "In such cases, key data like user authentication information could be duplicated, causing actual damage." This means they are preparing in advance for the risk that existing security methods could be breached by upcoming ultra-high-performance computers.


The advantage of this new security technology is that it simultaneously utilizes mathematical formulas and principles of quantum physics to prevent hackers from extracting information. Simply put, it is like having two locks layered on a door. A KT official stated, "Starting with the 5G USIM network, we plan to expand the application scope of the Hybrid Quantum Encryption Communication Network."
