According to Gimpo City on the 26th, Mayor Kim Byung-su of Gimpo and Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul signed a business agreement for Seoul’s online education platform ‘Seoul Learn’ at Gimpo City Hall on the 25th.

‘Seoul Learn’ is an online learning platform introduced by Seoul in 2021, providing free access to popular internet lectures for students from vulnerable groups and supporting customized mentoring, making it a representative educational welfare project.

Students in Gimpo City whose household income is below 60% of the median income can access entrance exam lectures by famous instructors from academies in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul through the Seoul Learn website.

This ‘Seoul Learn’ agreement is the third case following Chungcheongbuk-do and Pyeongchang-gun in Gangwon-do, and through this, Gimpo aims to reduce educational disparities within the region and alleviate parents’ private education expenses.

According to the agreement, Gimpo City plans to prioritize providing Seoul Learn content to low-income high school students starting in the second half of this year and gradually expand the scope of the project. In addition, students will be supported not only with high-quality learning content but also with career and college admission counseling and study management through university student mentors.

Mayor Kim said, “Gimpo City is working together with Seoul not only in transportation but also in education. I hope this agreement will help reduce educational disparities among students and ease the burden of private education expenses for parents. We will expand cooperation in various fields such as lifelong learning and the expansion of cultural and sports facilities. I look forward to Gimpo, embracing the sea, advancing as a maritime city together with Seoul beyond transportation and education.”

Mayor Oh said, “Seoul Learn is a policy that helps students have a fair starting line. I hope that more students will benefit through cooperation with Gimpo City.”

Earlier, Gimpo City participated in the ‘Climate Companion Card,’ one of Mayor Oh’s key transportation welfare projects last year, enabling citizens to use transportation in Seoul for about 60,000 KRW per month. Gimpo also formed a related task force (TF) expressing its intention to participate in the water transportation system ‘River Bus’ (Han River Bus) that Seoul is planning to introduce.
