The Binary team, consisting of four students from the Department of Computer Software (Son Ok-mu, Kim Geon-woo, Jang Seong-ik, Seol Jae-hyeok, supervised by Professor Kim Jin-sook), completed the "AI-based Unmanned Mobile System (Drone, Autonomous Driving) Development (1)" training hosted by the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency in 2022. Afterward, they participated in the "2022 DIT Capstone Design Competition" hosted by the LINC Project Group of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology and won the grand prize.
In the same year, they also won the bronze prize at the "2022 DigiTech Capstone Design Competition" held by the DigiTech Higher Education Vocational Council. Building on this success, they applied for a patent in 2022 and achieved the milestone of filing the patent in 2024.
The "AI-based Facial Recognition Access System for Club Rooms" developed by the Binary team captures the faces of individuals seeking access to the club room via a webcam. Using AI facial recognition technology, the captured images are sent to a database, where the system automatically identifies the person from the registered database and opens the door only for authorized club members.
Seol Jae-hyeok, a member of the Binary team, said, "I always strive to be a developer who grows with the times. I am grateful to the professors and team members who provided great support to achieve this accomplishment. I believe that through teamwork, we developed this system and achieved excellent results."
Heo Bong-sik, head of the Department of Computer Software at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, stated, "By undertaking projects on various topics, students can deepen and broaden the knowledge gained from the regular curriculum. The experience accumulated during this process will be a valuable asset in equipping them with the capability to proactively solve complex problems after graduation."
The Department of Computer Software at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology was established in March 1983 and has produced numerous talents in the IT field over more than 40 years. The department aims to educate skilled software development experts in smart IT industry sectors such as web, mobile apps, databases, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and cloud computing.
