Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, jointly conducted an on-site inspection on the 24th with Hwaseong Western Police Station of the pilot project for the 'LED Vehicle Traffic Light Auxiliary Device' in the child protection zone in front of Songrin Elementary School located in Saesol-dong.
About 10 officials, including Jeong Myeong-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong, and Lee Jae-hong, Chief of Hwaseong Western Police Station, attended the on-site inspection.

This project was promoted through cooperation between the two organizations to prevent child traffic accidents in the jurisdiction and to secure a safe traffic environment for vulnerable road users. In addition to Songrin Elementary School, the device was also installed around Hagil Elementary School and Sangsin Elementary School in Hyangnam-eup.
This device is embedded in the traffic light pole and emits light from the attachment itself located above the existing three-color light, intuitively conveying the signal to drivers and encouraging compliance with traffic signals. It is expected to be effective in preventing traffic accidents as drivers can stably confirm the signal even in situations of nighttime, bad weather, or obstructed view by large vehicles.
Following this pilot installation, the city plans to additionally install this device in front of the Ssangjeong 2-ri Senior Center in Songsan-myeon next month, and during the pilot operation period, comprehensively analyze traffic accident rates, driver responses, and citizen opinions to consider expanding the operation.
Mayor Jeong said, "We will strive to ensure that citizens can live in a safe traffic environment through organic cooperation with the local police station," adding, "Especially this year, we will actively utilize the 127 won budget secured for child traffic safety to create a Hwaseong City where children can walk safely."
