Lawsuits Filed Over Tens of Billions Won in Jeonse Fraud in Suwon, Yongin, Hwaseong, and Others... Police Investigation Underway Yonhap News

On the 24th, the Suwon Nambu Police Station announced that it had received complaints from 16 individuals by the 20th, requesting punishment of a landlord in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of fraud.

The complainants claim that they have not been able to recover a total of approximately 2 billion won in jeonse deposits from Mr. A. They currently reside in 14 buildings, including multi-family houses owned by Mr. A in the Suwon, Yongin, and Hwaseong areas of Gyeonggi Province.

Some of the complainants initially filed complaints at other police stations, but the cases were transferred to the Suwon Nambu Police Station, where the investigation is now underway.

The scale of complaints is expected to grow further. The 14 buildings where the complainants reside consist of a total of about 270 households, and there is concern that damages may spread to other buildings owned by Mr. A.

Separately, the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station also received complaints from 28 individuals on the same day, filing charges against Mr. A and is currently assessing the extent of the damages.

Previously, the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station had received one complaint claiming that the jeonse deposit was not returned by Mr. A. However, considering the location of Mr. A’s rental corporation, that case was transferred to the Jeonbuk Police Agency.

A police official stated to Yonhap News, "Since Mr. A owns buildings in multiple cities and counties, the scale of damages is expected to increase. The intelligence team at Suwon Nambu Police Station plans to consolidate and investigate complaints coming from various regions in the future."
