400 Talent Volunteers Put the Value of Sharing into Action

POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Ko Jaeyoon) carried out a large-scale joint volunteer activity in the Taein-dong area of Gwangyang City on the 22nd, delivering warm-hearted love to local neighbors.


Gwangyang Steelworks regularly conducts joint volunteer activities every year to practice POSCO's unique culture of 'volunteering and sharing' and to walk together with the local community.

The joint volunteer activity, held simultaneously in Dochon Village and Jangnae Village in Taein-dong, involved more than 35 talent volunteer teams from Gwangyang Steelworks, employees from the Hwaseong and Ironmaking departments who have sisterhood ties with each village, the Gwangyang City Hall Volunteer Group, the Heemangbbangguum Volunteer Group composed of members from the Seosannarae Volunteer Group for the Disabled, the Women's Association Council, and about 400 volunteers who rolled up their sleeves for their neighbors.


During the joint volunteer event, employees and each volunteer group engaged in customized volunteer activities utilizing their own talents, contributing to improving the village environment and enhancing the quality of life for residents.


The Home Organization Talent Volunteer Group and Hwaseong Department employees carried out environmental cleanup activities within the village, while the Clean Marine Guardian Talent Volunteer Group for Island Areas led efforts to collect trash and clean up the riverside near Dochon Village, actively improving the living environment for residents.


The 119 Disaster Prevention Talent Volunteer Group, Computer Talent Volunteer Group, Agricultural Machinery Repair Talent Volunteer Group, Heemangdeung and Firefly Talent Volunteer Groups, and Dustproof Net Talent Volunteer Group visited residents' homes to install fire detectors, repair computers and agricultural machinery, inspect electrical facilities, and install dustproof nets, helping with the repair and installation of various items needed by residents, thereby improving their quality of life.


In particular, the 'Heemangbbangguum' Volunteer Group, composed of local volunteers with disabilities, also participated in the sharing activities, adding warmth to the event.


These volunteers have received training as pastry chefs with developmental disabilities through a program organized by the Seosannarae Vocational Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled and supported by the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation, which is funded by voluntary donations from Gwangyang Steelworks employees.


With the skills they have honed, they delivered handmade bread not only to residents but also to fellow volunteers working hard, embodying the value of sharing.


In addition, various medical and cultural volunteer activities held at the community center contributed to improving residents' health and providing emotional support, receiving a great response from the community.


The Foot Massage Talent Volunteer Group and First Aid Training Talent Volunteer Group provided massages for physical and mental relaxation and offered guidance on emergency response and health promotion. The Nail Art Talent Volunteer Group, Maeumieum Flower Arrangement Talent Volunteer Group, Traditional Play Culture Talent Volunteer Group, Freedom Acoustic Guitar Talent Volunteer Group, and Calligraphy Talent Volunteer Group provided services for psychological stability, adding vibrancy to the joint volunteer activity.


A resident of Taein-dong said, "I am grateful to Gwangyang Steelworks for not forgetting us, visiting again, and providing various volunteer activities needed by our neighbors, which brings vitality to our village. Thanks to their efforts, our village is becoming a better place to live."
