Reducing Family Burden Through Pick-up and Drop-off Service
The Dementia Relief Center in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it has signed a business agreement for the 'Dementia Relief Taxi Pick-up and Drop-off Service' this year to support the safe transportation of dementia patients and alleviate their sense of social isolation.
This service allows dementia patients participating in the center's cognitive rehabilitation programs, or residents with mobility difficulties who wish to receive early screening, to use taxis free of charge for travel between their homes and the center. The service operates on a reservation basis.

The county provides 'Dementia Partner Education' every year to taxi drivers participating in the pick-up and drop-off service, aiming to improve awareness of dementia and ensure high-quality service based on understanding. By enhancing accessibility to the Dementia Relief Center and activating care programs, the initiative has received a positive response as it eases not only the caregiving burden but also the financial burden on families of dementia patients.
In addition, the center provides monthly medication support up to 30,000 KRW (for households with income at or below 140% of the median), supplies such as diapers, wandering identification tags to prevent missing persons, and conducts cognitive enhancement education to prevent dementia and its progression.
An official from the public health center stated, "By providing this pick-up and drop-off service, we have been able to address blind spots in dementia care and reduce health disparities, thereby promoting welfare equity. We will continue to do our best to make the Dementia Relief Center a place that supports dementia patients and their families."
