Responding to EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Guidelines... Ministry of SMEs and Startups Provides Integrated ESG Support

Providing ESG Assessment and Consulting

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 24th that it is recruiting companies to participate in the 'Supply Chain ESG Innovation Project.'

This project is being launched for the first time this year to effectively support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cooperating within the supply chain in response to the implementation of the European Union (EU) Supply Chain Due Diligence Directive. The EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Directive mandates environmental and social impact due diligence within the supply chains of companies exceeding a certain scale (approximately 2.1 trillion KRW in export value by 2027).

Responding to EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Guidelines... Ministry of SMEs and Startups Provides Integrated ESG Support

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will issue a combined announcement for the 'Climate Disclosure and Supply Chain Due Diligence Response Infrastructure Establishment' project and the 'Public-Private Joint Strategic ESG Support' project to support SMEs in responding to the EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Directive.

The 'Climate Disclosure and Supply Chain Due Diligence Response Infrastructure Establishment' project is a diagnostic and consulting initiative utilizing an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) platform. SMEs cooperating with selected primary contractors can diagnose vulnerable areas according to ESG evaluation indicators presented by the primary contractors through the ESG platform and check their own ESG levels within the supply chain. Additionally, ESG management evaluation experts visit companies directly to provide in-depth diagnosis, including education, consulting, and certification acquisition.

The 'Public-Private Joint Strategic ESG Support' project is a voluntary task support program where large corporations and SMEs jointly carry out ESG activities. Large corporations that have contributed to the win-win cooperation fund can autonomously recruit cooperating SMEs to apply for tasks, and various types of support are available according to each company's needs, such as EU supply chain due diligence, greenhouse gas verification, ESG information disclosure, and eco-friendly process consulting.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to start with the combined announcement of the two projects, hold briefings for large companies subject to the EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Directive, and conduct additional evaluations of selected SMEs in the project to provide follow-up linkage such as the introduction of carbon reduction facilities and policy fund loans.
