Gyeonggi Province will conduct a "Safety Inspection for Thawing Season Accident Prevention" at 64 underground excavation construction sites from the 24th of this month to the 19th of next month.
On the 23rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that for locations where ground weakening is a concern due to the melting of the frozen surface during winter, joint inspections involving the province, city and county officials, and private experts will be conducted at 4 sites, while the remaining 60 sites will be inspected by the respective city and county authorities.
The main inspection targets are underground construction sites deeper than 10 meters applying CIP (Cast-In-Place concrete pile) methods, H-pile retaining wall methods, among construction sites requiring permits under Article 11 of the Building Act. The inspection will focus on ▲whether temporary earth retaining walls are deformed and the installation status of support structures ▲plans to address groundwater level rise in front of and behind the earth retaining walls ▲operation and management status of groundwater level gauges and underground inclinometers.
Following the inspection, Gyeonggi Province will issue on-site correction orders for minor issues and require corrective actions for maintenance-related matters, managing them until completion.
Park Jong-geun, Director of the Architectural Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "During the thawing season, the ground weakens, raising concerns about collapses and subsidence, so thorough safety management is essential above all else. We will do our best to prevent safety accidents through pre-safety inspections of excavation construction sites within the province."
