Korea PIM Advances Humanoid Robot Core Technology

Korea PIM recently entered the humanoid robot market and is now advancing its core technologies.

Korea PIM, the leading domestic company in MIM (Metal Injection Molding) technology, announced on the 21st that it is currently enhancing its titanium-based technology during the development of reduction gear components for humanoid robots.

Global leaders in the humanoid robot industry such as Tesla and Boston Dynamics are increasing investments in high-performance reduction gears to achieve precise movements and maximize durability. Tesla is focusing on enabling delicate tasks using the fingers of 'Optimus,' while Boston Dynamics developed 'Atlas' for precise application in manufacturing environments.

To meet the global demand for high-performance reduction gears in humanoid robots, Korea PIM recently began advancing its titanium-related MIM technology. To improve the precision of humanoid robot reduction gears, the company is developing ▲ high-strength titanium processing technology ▲ titanium-based machining technology, aiming to secure next-generation titanium technology within this year.

MIM is a technology suitable for mass production of ultra-precision parts. It allows processing up to 5 μm (micrometers) and facilitates the realization of complex shapes. Depending on the material applied, the technology can be used not only in robots but also in various industries such as autonomous driving camera modules and smartphones.

A Korea PIM representative stated, “With global companies expected to begin mass production as early as this year following the unveiling of humanoid robots, we decided to advance titanium-based technology suitable for humanoid robots to respond to mass production.” He added, “Based on titanium MIM technology and Korea’s top MIM capabilities, we will strengthen our approach to the global humanoid robot market.”

He continued, “While aiming to complete the titanium MIM technology advancement within this year, we are pursuing supply to global humanoid robot specialized companies,” adding, “Along with stable sales in the automotive electronics sector, we will accelerate performance growth by actively entering the rapidly growing humanoid robot market.”
