No Safety Helmet Worn...
Investigation Underway into Compliance with Safety Regulations
A Chinese worker in his 60s died after falling during a seismic reinforcement construction in a restroom at a middle school in Wando, Jeollanam-do.
According to the Wando Police Station on the 20th, at around 1 p.m. the previous day, a Chinese national identified as A (61) died after falling from a height of 1.7 meters while working at a middle school located in Geumil-eup, Wando-gun. A was working with two colleagues and is believed to have lost his footing and fallen while not wearing a safety helmet.
A suffered a severe head injury in the fall and was transported to the hospital immediately after the accident, but ultimately passed away. The police plan to conduct an autopsy on A's body at around 9 a.m. on the 21st to determine the exact cause of the accident.
An official from the Office of Education stated, "The construction site was not at a high place, and the structure made it difficult for a fall accident to occur. The space between the scaffolding frames installed in the restroom was also narrow, so it is hard to believe that someone could fall and die in there."
The police believe it is highly likely that A lost his footing on a safety board and fell, and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning his coworkers. They are also investigating whether safety regulations were followed at the construction site and examining the working environment.
