Namcheol Lee, Goryeong County Governor, Visits Foreign Seasonal Workers on Site

Encouraging Workers,
Creating Opportunities for Communication

On the 20th, Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, visited farms employing foreign seasonal workers to encourage them.

On this day, Lee Nam-cheol, the governor of Goryeong-gun, visited farms where seasonal workers were working, inspected the working environment and the heating and cooling systems, shower rooms, and restrooms in the accommodations, and listened to the workers' difficulties.

Currently, in Goryeong-gun, 165 workers out of the 397 who entered the country last year and still have remaining work periods are working on farms with labor shortages, such as strawberry and tomato farms.

This year, the county has been allocated a total of 578 foreign seasonal workers by the Ministry of Justice. Among them, 318 people, including 217 farm-type workers, 60 public-type workers, and 41 marriage immigrants, will enter the country sequentially every month from February to May.

In particular, Goryeong-gun arranges the entry of workers according to the cultivation periods of various crops such as strawberries, oriental melons, tomatoes, garlic, and onions, setting the country and duration accordingly.

Luise Bernardo Serez from Lubao City, Philippines, who has been working on a strawberry farm for six months, said, "I have been working on the same farm since 2023, and I am grateful to the farm owner who kindly treats me every time I come. I am happy to have the opportunity to learn advanced agricultural techniques and earn a lot of money. I want to work diligently and come back again next year."

Governor Lee Nam-cheol said, "Thanks to the foreign workers who came to Goryeong-gun again this year following last year and helped resolve the agricultural labor shortage, the satisfaction of farmers is high. Goryeong-gun will strive to ensure that diligent workers can work on the same farms every year."
