KPGA Tour Sees Fewer Tournaments and Reduced Total Prize Money Kim Won-seop, KPGA President

On the 20th, the KPGA Tour officially announced the schedule for the 2025 season. The number of tournaments decreased by two from last year's 22, and the total prize money also dropped by 1.7 billion KRW from 27.6 billion KRW. However, the prize money per tournament slightly increased from 1.25 billion KRW last year to 1.29 billion KRW. Since the title sponsors for two newly established tournaments have not been confirmed, the number of tournaments and prize money may change somewhat. The total prize money for the 18 confirmed tournaments is 23.9 billion KRW.

If the two tournaments are not filled, only 18 tournaments will be held. This could be the worst KPGA Tour season since 2021, when there were 17 tournaments. One of the newly established tournaments is a so-called "opposite event" held to accommodate players who cannot participate in the Genesis Championship, which is also part of the DP World Tour. The KB Financial Live Championship, held since 2018, and the Descente Korea Matchplay, which started in 2010, will not be held this year.

The DB Insurance Promy Open will again be the season opener this year. It will take place over four days from April 17 at the Ravie Belle Country Club Old Course in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. The season finale, the KPGA Tour Championship, will be held from November 6 to 9 in Jeju Island. The golf course is yet to be decided.

Five tournaments?the Genesis Championship, co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour; the GS Caltex Maekyung Open, an Asian Tour event; the Kolon Korean Open; the Hana Bank Invitational, co-sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO); and the Shinhan Donghae Open, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, JGTO, and a third country's tour?are jointly organized with overseas tours. The tournament with the highest prize money is the KPGA Championship, with 1.6 billion KRW, and including the co-sanctioned overseas tournaments, the Genesis Championship offers 4 million USD in prize money.
