Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 20th that it raised 1.411 billion KRW through the ‘2025 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign,’ achieving 141% of its fundraising goal.
The ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ is a fundraising event organized through cooperation between Gangbuk-gu and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest to support marginalized neighbors and spread the spirit of sharing. It was held over three months from November 15 last year to February 14 this year.
Residents, small business owners, companies, hospitals, various organizations, and religious institutions from all walks of life participated, resulting in a total of 1,410 donations. Donations included 640.3 million KRW in cash and goods worth 770.95 million KRW. As a result, the district achieved 141% of its 1 billion KRW fundraising target, raising 1.411 billion KRW and recording a “Love Temperature” of 141 degrees.
This achievement was greatly contributed to by 27 ambassadors, including the chairperson of the local community security council and the representative of the neighborhood leaders’ association. The ambassadors encouraged local residents to participate, shared stories of marginalized neighbors, and gathered hearts of sharing.
This year’s fundraising included many warm stories. A young entrepreneur, recalling the difficulties he had experienced, donated 400 kg of kimchi along with a message of encouragement to low-income youth. An anonymous donor, who firmly refused to reveal their identity, moved many by donating 18.5 million KRW along with a handwritten letter. Additionally, a local daycare center held a flea market to raise funds for donation, and children donated their carefully saved piggy banks, adding warmth to the community with their kind deeds.
The collected cash and goods will be distributed to residents with incomes below 120% of the median income, including low-income families facing economic hardship, patients lacking treatment funds, and low-income youth needing academic support.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, “I deeply thank all the residents who participated in sharing for their neighbors despite the difficult economic conditions. We will not forget your precious sincerity and will do our best to create an even warmer community.”
