Strong Response Needed Against Acts of Disparagement and Deception, Says Yoon in Five-Minute Free Speech at Temporary Session
Asan City Council member Yoon Wonjun is delivering a 5-minute free speech at the 2nd plenary session of the 255th extraordinary meeting on the 20th.
On the 20th, Yoon Wonjun, a member of the Asan City Council in South Chungcheong Province, emphasized that "it should be called Asanho, not Pyeongtaekho."
Yoon stressed this point during a five-minute free speech at the second plenary session of the 255th temporary meeting held that day.
He said, "The Korea Rural Community Corporation manages Asanho but has installed a signboard reading 'Pyeongtaekho Branch' and is subtly inserting this name into dredging project sites as well," adding, "Even the dredged soil from the project sites is being leaked to Pyeongtaek."
He continued, "The West Inland Expressway Corporation is also introducing Pyeongtaekho as one of the 'Eight Scenic Views of Pyeongtaek' on its website," and raised his voice, saying, "This is not just a matter of naming, but an organized act of disparaging and deceiving our city, which requires a strong response."
He went on to say, "Asan City must reclaim and protect the name Asanho through strong administrative measures," and urged, "We will thoroughly check whether administrative procedures under the Tourism Promotion Act and the Rural Community Rearrangement Act are being properly implemented by the Korea Rural Community Corporation, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Chungnam Province, and Pyeongtaek City."
Meanwhile, Asanho is an artificial freshwater lake formed in December 1973 when the Asanman Embankment was constructed between Gongseri in Inju-myeon and Gwon-gwan-ri in Hyeondeok-myeon, Pyeongtaek.
In 1974, the late former President Park Chunghee erected a monument commemorating the completion of Asanho, thereby formalizing its name. Since July 1988, it has been registered as an agricultural production infrastructure of the Asanman Embankment and has been managed by the Korea Rural Community Corporation.
