Seo-gu District in Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 20th that it has introduced the 'Smart Cube,' an innovation born from the creative ideas of MZ generation public officials.
The Smart Cube, a six-person independent space located on the second floor of the district office, can be freely used by any Seo-gu District Office employee for meetings, personal work, research activities, and more.

The district has improved operational efficiency by implementing a reservation system and created a pleasant environment by installing an oxygen generator, ventilator, and flame-retardant sound-absorbing materials within the space.
In particular, the Smart Cube is especially meaningful as it is the result of proposals made through 'Fun-ON-Work,' a program operated last year by Seo-gu focusing on MZ generation public officials to foster a joyful workplace culture of communication and consideration.
One public official stated, "I think stepping out of the stuffy office to relax and have comfortable conversations will inspire creative thinking and various ideas," adding, "I hope more spaces like the Smart Cube will be created in the workplace."
Fun-ON-Work has also proposed other initiatives to transform the rigid organizational culture, including: ▲ a 'Welcome Kit' containing a public service manual, office supplies, and work diary for new officials ▲ the 'Good 100-Day Challenge' for self-development and motivation ▲ innovation in company dining culture during lunch breaks ▲ early leave on family birthdays ▲ incentives for substitutes during childcare hours ▲ and 'No Department Head Day' operations.
This year, the district plans to continue operating Fun-ON-Work with themes of work efficiency using AI and digital administration innovation.
Yu Kwangjin, Director of Administrative Support, said, "We will create an exciting workplace at Seo-gu District Office by fostering a joyful and vibrant work environment that bridges generational and cultural differences," and added, "I hope that brilliant and innovative ideas and policies will pour out from the Smart Cube."
