Island Expo Organizing Committee and Regional Era Committee Join Hands for Successful Island Expo

Vice Chairperson Lee Junghyun Presides Over Discussion on Inter-Ministerial Cooperation Plans

The Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development, a presidential agency, has taken proactive steps to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.


According to the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee, on the 19th, a meeting was held at the Committee’s office in Sejong City to share proposals for central government support and discuss inter-ministerial cooperation plans for the successful hosting of the Island Expo.

The meeting, presided over by Lee Junghyun, Vice Chairperson of the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development, was attended by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Also present were Choi Jeonggi, Deputy Mayor of Yeosu City, Seo Chaehoon, Head of the Island Expo Support Group, and Lee Jeongjun, Director of Planning at the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee.


Previously, from the 13th for two days, the Organizing Committee visited the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to explain the necessity of the main projects of the Island Expo, and proposed 13 projects including coastal cruise operations and demonstrations of island aviation mobility.


The meeting was organized to further specify ministerial support projects for the Island Expo, such as half-price island passenger ferry fare support, pilot operation of coastal cruises, and the designation of a smart village as a sub-venue of the Island Expo.


In particular, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport agreed to actively cooperate in issuing special airworthiness certificates for demonstrations of Island Aviation Mobility (IAM) and in discovering related projects.


Lee Jeongjun, Director of Planning at the Organizing Committee, said, “I would like to thank Vice Chairperson Lee Junghyun for uniting efforts for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo,” and added, “As cooperation with the central government is more important than ever, we will do our utmost to ensure that the projects proceed without a hitch.”


Meanwhile, the world’s first Island Expo, the ‘2026 Yeosu World Island Expo,’ is scheduled to be held from September 5 to November 4, 2026, in Jinmo District, Dolsan-eup, Yeosu City, at the Yeosu World Expo site, and in the island regions including Geumodo and Gaedo, under the theme ‘Connecting Islands, the Sea, and the Future.’
