Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju announced on the 19th that it has been honored with the 'Grand Prize' as the top autonomous district in the nation at the 2024 Korea Regional Economy Awards.
The Regional Economy Awards, jointly organized by the Korean Regional Economics Association and the Korea Regional Economy Research Institute, evaluate the overall performance and achievements of 243 local governments nationwide based on various statistical data.
The district received excellent evaluations across eight sectors, including jobs and employment, prices and consumers, business support, local economy, culture and tourism, agricultural economy, regional innovation, and economic leadership.
In particular, it was the only district in Gwangju to win three awards, being selected for the top prize in prices and consumers and the silver prize in culture and tourism.
Park Byungkyu, the head of the district office, said, "We will communicate with citizens, build the foundation for sustainable jobs through solidarity and cooperation with various economic actors, and devote all our efforts to recovering the livelihoods of people facing great economic challenges."
